Our Cornish Rex have a catwalk, "The Rex Roost," in our daughter's bedroom. (She was the original "Cat Person" in our family, as you can
see from all of the cat items in her room.)
Accessed by a floor-to-ceiling scratching post, the catwalk runs around the perimeter of her room --
approximately 45 feet of raised Rex runway!

The scratching post was made from assembling four floor-to-ceiling length 1 x 4 boards
into a post configuration (attached at the ceiling and the floor).
The resulting hollow post was then wrapped with sisal rope, which had been dyed pink to match the room decor.
Before mounting, we routed out the middle of each board where we recessed carpet to provide traction for the cats
and prevent any accidental slips. We also made sure to mount the boards several inches from the
walls to provide turn-around space for the cats.
For a final touch, we attached purple neon tape-light to the wall
edge of each board creating a subtle backlit effect along the catwalk at night.
The power inverter box for the tape-light was conveniently tucked inside the scratching post before
it was wrapped with the sisal rope.

We strategically placed the catwalk to align with the top portion of the palladium window.
The cats especially enjoy perching in front of this window for a view of the birds, bugs, squirrels, etc. outside.
The catwalk was constructed from 2 x 6 boards. Each board was cut to fit
(mitered corners), painted, and then attached to the walls using shelf brackets.
At the scratching post, the boards were attached with L-brackets which were
nicely concealed when the post was wrapped with the sisal rope.

Geronimo and Sprocket love their elevated walkway!
And, our daughter loves looking up from her bed and seeing Cornies encircling her room!
